Hoogterp, Francis Boyd (“Frank Hoogterp”) was called home to Jesus on October 15, 2012 after a long battle with brain cancer. Frank was born May 26, 1943 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Frank loved God and loved to share that love with others. He was a very intelligent man and took pride in learning. He received his PhD in systems engineering from Oakland University in 1984. He had a successful career working for the United States Government. Frank enjoyed running and ran many races, including several River Bank Runs. He continued running until his cancer diagnosis made it impossible to do so.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Dorothy Hoogterp and his sister, Barb Rowe. He is survived by his wife, Betty: his children, Cindy and Ben Moore, Michael Hoogterp, Ben Hoogterp, and Laura and Jim Decker: his stepsons , Bill and Kim Sarber and Dusty Sarber: 6 grandchildren: 1 great grandchild: his sisters and brothers, Joan Loveland, Ruth Ashley, Terry and John Foley, Mart and Barb Hoogterp, Tom and Kathy Hoogterp, Ed and Millie Hoogterp, Mary Hoogterp and Jim Brewer, Angie Hoogterp and Bobbie Rosencrans, Sue and Doug Shank, Sara and Mike Yob, Dan and Helena Hoogterp, and Jim McKinley: also many nieces, nephews, cousins ,and other extended family members.
According to his wishes, Frank has been cremated. A service to celebrate his life and his arrival in heaven will be held Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 11 am at First Evangelical Covenant Church- 1933 Tremont Blvd NW, Grand Rapids, MI. there will be a luncheon and visiting time following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Degage ministries in Grand Rapids.
